I am planning to stay on a mooring buoy in a moderately well sheltered Loch in Scotland with mooring buoy with eye provided by the boat yard who are telling me I need to use my own strop. What mooring strop arrangement do I need to consider using for my Mac Wight when mooring on such a buoy. I am proposing to leave her unattended for several weeks, possibly a month, so my usual arrangement on a night mooring using a couple of differently tensioned ropes from the rope locker is probably not going to be enough.

    Hi Peter.

We have only ever used mooring ropes (doubled up) in such a situation. You need to seek advice on what the locals do.

Hi Peter, I have two strops on Seabirds Pinmill mooring. These are shackled to the eye of the buoy at one end and the other end through fairlead to the Sampson post. I tie the slack in the loop up with a separate piece of line to stop it slipping off.
