    Hi all,

My Mac26 has a Yanmar ysm 8 engine which does seem to be a little power house of noise and vibration but sturdy reliability, but I can’t help thinking thats it quite an old engine and is going to break down as some point.

I do all the obvious things like oil changes and checking the belts etc, and recently rebuilt the water pump but what I would like to know, if anyone has experiance of these engines, is what to look out for with regards to signs of more serious damage, like noise differences or smells etc, or anything I should definatly do beyond a nomal service on a regular basis.

Playing with engines isn’t my normal thing but I have really enjoyed tinkering with one and would like to learn more.

    Cheers Matt.
