Macwester Marine sold the hull moulds of the 28 to Atlanta in the late 1970’s so they are substantially the same.
Mike HotardParticipantAmazing how many “keel” references the search picks out from the past journals! What a great resource we now have. 👍
Mike HotardParticipantThanks for sharing. Looks like it’s coming on. Or should I say coming off. Look forward to pictures of the finished job.
Mike HotardParticipantHi Stephen,
In the technical articles there is a rigging plan for the Malin but that doesn’t give sail size. In the 1980 autumn journal there is an article about replacing sails on a Malin Christala. The sails were purchased from Jeckells that supplied Macwester when they were built. Jeckells still have all the original sail plans. If no other Malin owner has measurements Jeckells may help.
Mike HotardParticipantHi Robert, I commented on your Facebook post. Have a look in the Technical library on the members page. If you search on the 27 class there is quite a bit of info on them.
Mike HotardParticipantLook forward to seeing pictures when she’s back in the water!
Mike HotardParticipantSlow but steady progress. Look forward to seeing the electric motor conversion!
Mike HotardParticipantGreat pictures and thanks for sharing. Shame you are thinking of selling her. If you spend your time out sailing you wont have to worry about the headroom. Lol
Mike HotardParticipantHi Charles,
Seabird will do around 6 knots with a clean hull motoring.
Best regardsMike
Mike HotardParticipantGreat looking boat Philip. I have had a Seaforth with a BMC engine now 9 years. Happy to help with info on my ownership. When you get time look at the technical library and read some of the past Association journals. There are a number of Seaforth articles. (Many by me! 🙂
Mike HotardParticipantHi Charles, my Seaforth has a BMC so can’t advise on a Volvo. However on a calm day with a reasonably calm sea I just motored in my Seaforth keeping an eye on the engine revs and boat speed. There comes a point when extra revs don’t actually make the boat go faster. To me that is the optimum point and I just knock the engine back a couple hundred RPMs now when using the motor.

Mike HotardParticipantHi Peter, I have two strops on Seabirds Pinmill mooring. These are shackled to the eye of the buoy at one end and the other end through fairlead to the Sampson post. I tie the slack in the loop up with a separate piece of line to stop it slipping off.

Mike HotardParticipantHi Peter, where is your current gas bottle located? Is there space for a different size cylinder. I suspect if your have space for the alternative size bottle it might just be the regulator. If you check the RYA website there is some useful info on there.
